Parenting In The Digital Age

There are very few things I hate more than having to compete for my child's brain against YouTube Shorts. I grew up with the internet but in an era when YouTube was where you went to find videos on how to do things like fix your blender. Today with reels and shorts aiming to hold your attention for no more than 30 seconds I think we have lost the benefit of the internet to learn. "Brain Rotting" or the act of scrolling pointless videos is an addiction I feel is taking over our and our kids brains. I am one of those crazy parents who still think the internet should be used for good and I get on their case when I see them spending too much time down that reels rabbit hole. Don't just consume, create.
Thus a compromise was born. I am enough of a realist to understand I can't keep them completely isolated in a 1990's fashion childhood but I decided if you must be on a screen, let's be productive. Let's put your art and your ideas into products and learn e-commence.
So here we are, building out a store using their (and my own) original art or design ideas on products. Creating product descriptions and photos, learning how to run a business, how to do taxes, how to market their products and so much more. We are learning together. Thanks for being here and supporting this effort, maybe if we have success we'll be able to share our new skills with others.
We are all in this digital fight together. Maybe some good will come.
Sincerely,
Rachel.
